About us

St James’s House – Jobs in Mind services promote the recovery and social inclusion of people with mental health issues, through facilitation of vocational, economic and social participation.

St James’s House was set up in 1989 as part of the decommissioning of Friern (Barnet Mental) Hospital with the objective to provide meaningful activity, training and vocational rehabilitation day services for people with severe mental health problems in the community.

The organisation and its services have grown and developed significantly since then and today St James’s House – Jobs in Mind provide Central and North London mental health services users with a comprehensive ‘menu’ of structured recovery and social inclusion focussed programmes:

St James’s House is a registered charity, supporting approximately 600 people per year. All services actively focus and support service users toward the goals of social inclusion and employment.

We have an excellent record of engaging mental health services users and particularly those from minority and disadvantaged backgrounds (100% of service users have mental health problems, 60% – 80% are on CPA, 38% – 46% of service users are from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, and 40% – 60% are female).

In 2003 St James’s House received the matrix Quality Standard guidance mark for information, advice and guidance services and was the matrix Excellence Award Winner in 2004. We are a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild.

We currently operate in the London boroughs of Camden, Islington, Hackney, City of London, Tower Hamlets and Westminster.
